Hope for Filipino Athletes with La Filipina's First Power Up Run

The maker of the only corned pork in the Philippines, La Filipina, starts the year 2020 by doing its first-ever Fun Run aptly titled "Power Up Run" on February 23, 2020, at Fort Santiago in Intramuros, Manila.

True to its brand name, the local brand of corned pork and luncheon meat products takes you to the historical landmarks of Fort Santiago and Intramuros not only to make it more interesting to the runners but also a unique way of promoting the Philippines' history and culture. This run is made possible in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Intramuros Administration (IA).

Coming from the brand's tagline, "Power Up with La Filipina", Power Up Run encourages everyone to start your day right by eating protein-rich breakfast like La Filipina's Corned Pork or Luncheon Meat. These meals bring power to your performance whether you do a sport or any regular activity that you have for the day.

La Filipina products are protein-rich and infused with milk. Unlike other canned meat products, La Filipina products do not use any extenders and trans fats, making them healthier meal alternatives.

La Filipina understands that other than choosing a healthy meal, engaging in physical activities is vital to keep everything in balance. "The company values its consumers; thus, we give them an opportunity to be healthy in a fun way." tells Ms. Danika Co, La Filipina's Brand Manager.

Apart from promoting tourism, history, health, and fitness, the run's utmost goal is to extend help to aspiring Filipino atheletes and teams who possess enormous potential to represent the country in different sports; however, they could not do so due to insufficient financial support.

"We like to encourage both athletes and non-athletes to help support the cause of La Filipina in supporting Filipino sports teams," say Ms. Co.

The proceeds from this worthwhile project will aid selected sports teams to continue training for their chosen sport.

At present, La Filipina is supporting teams in various sports such as volleyball, basketball, Sepak Takraw, Dragon Boat, and dance. Aside from helping La Filipina's existing Sports Teams, they will also support the GBM Squad, a group of young athletes that focuses on running, from public schools of Manila, Valenzuela, and Quezon City.

Celebrate World Egg Day with Eatlog Run 2019

In celebration of the World Egg Day, the Philippines participates in the annual commemoration via Eatlog Run 2019. Now on its fourth consecutive year, Eatlog Run continues to advocate one egg a day for good health. Eatlog Run 2019 supports local egg producers and continues to promote egg consumption.

Happening on October 13, 2019, at SM by the Bay in Pasay City, this family-oriented event brings in a new twist to its usual fun run as it introduces various egg dishes along the running course. This activity is a unique way to highlight egg as a healthy, nutritious yet affordable food choice.

Eggs are an inexpensive yet richest source of high-quality protein, other nutrients such as essential fatty acids, and micronutrients like vitamins and minerals, necessary for the body's nutritional requirement.

One of the vitamins found in eggs is Vitamin D. The egg yolk has high level of Vitamin D, that is required by the body to control the availability of calcium and phosporous that strengthens the bones. Sufficient levels of Vitamin D, likewise, provides immunity and cell repair to prevent stress and cancers.

Meanwhile, egg yolk's bright color is an indicator that an egg comes from a healthy hen. Aside from that, it contains high levels of carotenoids, that acts as antioxidants.

DSM Nutritional Products, one of the major partners of Eatlog Run Year 4, is the global leader in quality vitamins. They offer Optimum Vitamin Nutrition (OVN), a DSM trademark for quality in terms of ensuring level of recommended doses of vitamin requirement for animals are adequate, allowing the animal to function in basic growth, health maintenance, and production performance.

DSM supports in healthy egg production by providing not only the common form of Vitamin D3 but also the absorbable form of Hrdroxy-D3 (HyD®) in egg layer diet nutrition. This delivers adequate levels in the systems of the animal that can be deposited to the egg. It also has nature identical Carophylls® that can help supplement carotenoids aside from the feedstuff.

Other than eggs' many health benefits, this run aims to uplift and empower our local egg producers. With the support of Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Animal Industry, Department of Science and Technology - Food and Nutrition Research Institute, Philippine Association of Breeders and Layers, Inc. (PABLI), Philippine Egg Board Association, and DSM Nutritional Products, The Good Egg by Sarimanok; and other partners will help us better understand egg's contribution to the food and poultry industry.

DSM Nutritional Products is recognized by the International Egg Commission (IEC) as the first sole Value Chain Partner for feed additives and sustainability. This partnership is responsible for supporting sustainable egg production by promoting it as the lowest contributor to environmental footprints while being an affordable, safe, and accessible form of nutrition to all. This collaboration requires international cooperation with global organization to deliver United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, that will benefit the need of the growing population for food and help drive positive development in the egg industry.

In a report done by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), it presented that egg-laying poultry segment has increased by 8.8 percent to 142,010 metric tons in the first quarter of 2019. The three highest regions that contributed to the increase were the CALABARZON Region, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas. According to the PSA report, these three regions comprised 60.1 percent of the total chicken egg production of the country. Nonetheless, there is an impending need to address low egg consumption in the country.

Apart from increased consumption and awareness on eggs' nutritional value, the proceeds of Eatlog Run will aid the following institutions - Save the Children and Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational Benefit System Office (AFP-EBSO), to continue their fight against malnutrition and send orphaned children to school.

Registration is now open for any of these categories with corresponding prices.

P600.00 = 3K Solo
P2200.00 = 3K Egg Family (or group of four with at least 1 child)
P700.00 = 5K Solo
P1300.00 = 5K Buddies Double Egg Yolk
P800.00 = 10K Scrambled Solo

Race kit includes singlet, racebib, finisher's medal, and lootbags. For 10K runners, they get additional race belt.

On-site registration takes place at selected Chris Sports branches - SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia and Glorietta. Online registration is available by visiting www.goorahna.com.

Students are also encouraged to join. They can participate in this run for a cause for a discounted price of P150.00. They will receive racebib and medal.

The Ramen Empire Journey with Tomochan

Seichoyo Group Inc. envisioned Tomochan Ramen Express to become the next symbol of Japanese culture in the Philippines as the company believes that establishing Tomochan will further cultivate and strengthen the JaPinoy friendship by making authentic Japanese cuisine more affordable and reachable to every Filipino.

Tomochan Ramen Express is founded by Akiko Okamoto. She wants to share the authentic Japanese delight to the Filipino community and to the rest of the world at a very reasonable price without sacrificing its quality and tatse. Okamoto took the bold step of the journey by opening its first store in Angeles City, Pampanga on July 2017. She believes and lives with the undying dream that Tomochan Ramen Express will be the new "daily ramen" that every individual would consider as their ultimate comfort food.
The company thought of something that will be recognized as "Solid Friendship" and a bond of endearment.
Now, let's have a little trivia here.

"Tomo" was derived from the word Tomadachi, which is a Japanese term for "a friend".

"Chan" is being used for Miss/close friends/little children and sometimes even used for couples/loved ones.

And that's where they decided to have the word Tomochan, which means a solid friendship that promotes love, loyalty and dedication.

Tomochan currently have 5 stores. They have 2 stores in Angeles City, located the Marquee Mall and New Point Mall. They have 1 at Santa Rosa, Laguna located at Solenad Mall. In Makati City, they have 1 at the LKG Tower. And yes, to the people from the far north, they have one at Ayala Fairview Terraces, located at Food Choices. Kanako Takizawa, General Manager of Tomochan also mentioned  that they prefer food court locations instead of getting an actual store or restaurant set-up.

And yes, this is a budget friendly meal. Imagine eating ramen that starts for only P99.00! They even have rice meals for only P79.00!

And I tried their Shoyu Basic, which includes half egg, 2 slices of pork meat and leek. The noodles itself already has its distinct flavor, definitely tatse like egg noodles. Though it has been a bit too salty, I think its because of the egg. It tatse like salted egg, but it's not. And I love the pork meat. Nicely cut and easy to chew. I would give it a 90%. Honestly, it was too salty for me. But just 1 bowl of their ramen you would already feel full. I dare you to try it!

If you are planning to dive into a business venture, you can check out on getting a franchise of Tomochan and be part of their growing ramen empire journey.

ELKEN Philippines Launches Bio Pure Ultra

Last April 21 I was invited to the grand launch of Elken Philippines' latest product.

Bio Pure, the water treatment brand of Elken, launches Bio Pure Ultra, the latest water treatment system which aims to provide clean and safe water for a healthier life.

The new Bio Pure Ultra water treatment system features a 4-stage filtration system that filters fine particles, bacteria, harmful cysts, parasites and organic chemical contaminants.

The filter technology used in the Bio Pure Ultra is a membrane filtration system where hydrostatic pressure forces tap water which could contain bacteria, pesticides, sediments, or other contaminants against a semi permeable membrane for great tasting safe water.

"Water is the building block to good health," said Michael R. Long, Product and Research Director for Elken. " We are constantly exposed to internal and external factors that dehydrate us, be it from our environment, stress or an unhealthy lifestyle. Having clean drinking water is one of the fundamental steps in ensuring we stay healthy," he added.

The Bio Pure Ultra

With four stages of filtration, the stylish and compact design of the Bio Pure Ultra ensures clean and safe drinking water for your family straight from the tap (yes, you read it right, straight from the tap).

Stage 1 of the filtration system includes a sediment filter which filters particulate contaminants down to one micron in size.

Stage 2 includes an organic granular activated carbon pre-filter which removes virtually all organic chemicals.

Stage 3 is the Ultra filter which is used to removed bacteria, cysts, microscopic worms, parasites and other harmful organisms in addition to removing particles down to 0.1 microns in size.

Stage 4 includes an organic granular activated carbon post-filter which deodorizes and polishes the water to improve its taste.

"The Bio Pure Ultra is another one of Elken's excellent products in its range of superior water treatment systems. It makes tap water clean and safe, so that you and your family can drink great water," said Michael

Culture for the Future, TECHtonic 2017

TECHtonic premieres in July as the Philippines' largest tech and innovation conference

The vibrant startup scene in the country has encouraged more and more young entrepreneurs to venture into the world of business, risking the stability of corporate jobs for time freedom that entrepreneurship forebodes. Fortunately, access to capital and resources to start a business has never been easier, all thanks to the support of private venture capital groups and angel investors, business accelerators, and select government institutions. Mentorship opportunities are also very much abundant and readily available for young business owners to draw advantages from. In addition, corporations big and small alike are even more bullish in investing in tech and introducing innovative solutions to improve their business processes and capacity.

With a tech scene as energetic as ours here in the Philippines, one can say that business conferences that convene startups, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, corporate groups, and investors that have technology as focus are long overdue

Having this in mind, PMCM Events Management leads the staging of TECHtonic 2017: Manila Tech Convention "Culture for the Future." TECHtonic takes aim to be the country's largest startup conference, inviting international startup groups and investors from all over the world in one big event that highlights new technologies and innovation in the space.

Startups that qualify to join are given the chance to pitch their business ideas to a group of renowned local and international investors in a pitching competition headlined as "Startup Arena." Winning startups get to take home a guaranteed prize money and the opportunity to be mentored by the biggest names in the tech startup scene. Investors and corporate executives shall be treated to a private networking lunch and dinner hosted by the event organizers.

The event will also feature exhibits and activities from corporate partners and sponsors, talks and panels from key people in the tech startup scene, and - where the real fun is - an after-party city tour and pub crawl. Truly, this event is one that cannot be missed, especially for tech aficionados.

TECHtonic 2017: Manila Tech Convention takes place on July 29-30, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City. For more information and to register for free visit TECHtonic's website: www.techtonic.ph

The FightCon Experience

It's been a week, and I still can't get over it.

Yeah, I was given the privilege to cover the event about FightCon. I was (and hoping to come back soon) a Karate-do practitioner way back 1999, due to the challenges of being a mom, and after two miscarriages, I forced myself to stop.

Honestly, I missed training, A LOT! Words until now can't express how I felt (and feeling up to now) the excitement I felt during the event. Seeing all martial arts practitioners of different techniques (is that the right word to describe it? Hahaha!), actual competitors who greeted each other upon meeting at the venue, and demos being performed by participating gyms. And yes, it inspired me once again to go back into to training.

I've got a lot of pics, but I just selected the best that I've got for this blog.

And the first 50 who were at the venue early gets a free FightCon tumbler.

I honestly don't know how long this guy has been playing the virtual boxing match prepared by ABS-CBN Sports Action.

The Conditioning Challenge was the first activity, getting the scores by how many repeats and how perfectly they have done it.

One of the participating gyms performing the art of Kendo with a free basic session for the willing participant.

One of the participating gyms, demonstrating "The way of Peace", Aikido.

And yeah, I spotted someone... Brandon Vera is in the house!!! Yes, he is the event partner of FightCon.

And yes, would not let myself be left out since I got the chance.

With Sensei Donnie Geisler, after the kids from his Taekwondo training gym performed in the octagon ring.

The pictures below are the best ones that I had, talking about positioning yourself against the light.

And I definitely agree with Brandon's speech before the tournament started, martial arts practitioners should not be training exclusively under one gym. They should be allowed to explore other crafts as well through the help of other gyms.

Sadly, it has been happening here. Once you started training under one gym, it seems you are stuck with them forever. I even heard before that before a new training gym accepts you, you need to bring a letter showing that your previous training gym is allowing you to train with the new one. Weird right?

I enjoyed the event though I was not able to see the Muay Thai tournament since my dear friend who accompanied me has a curfew and we need to go home a bit early. Hoping to be part of the next FightCon event.

Manila, January 23, 2017 - FightCon, the country's first-ever fight and conditioning convention is back and this time around it's happening at the MetroTent Convention Center on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Guaranteed to be larger than last year's event, fight fans are sure to get a kick out of the affair's new highlights, beefed up activities and superior lineup.

"FightCon was designed to promote mixed martial arts, encourage athleticism and gather fighting and fitness communities in one event. It serves as a hub for various activities that cater to fighters, fans and brands allike." said Paul Gaw, founder and producer of FightCon.

Since it's launch last year, the first of its kind event series unified combat sports, fitness and even music all in one venue, in one day. This year, not only has it heightened its featured attractions, that is, MMA and Muay Thai competitions, a conditioning challenge, combat sports demos and exhibitions, live performances from a few of the country's celebrated artists and a brand expo, FightCon also teamed up with no less than ONE FC Heavyweight Champion, Brandon "The Truth Vera, to boost the promotion of mixed martial arts in the Philippines.
